Description:
Cheap materials like particle board get more interesting on close inspection. A laser cutter can cut into detailed shapes, but can also be used to etch at varying depths in a range of materials. Ink is avoided altogether.
Cost:
$7.00 for etching on University of Washington School of Art laser cutter. (Commercial laser cutting is considerably more expensive.) Particle board is very cheap, and this offcut scrap was free.
